The suspense was killing me… a few days ago, Queens of the Stone Age were rumored to do a surprise show in Los Angeles, they had tweeted ‘LA keep your eyes peeled’ on September 3rd, and the mystery was growing… Where was the show? When? Rumors were running wild on the internet and since the Satellite had announced some ‘special guests’ on Thursday, the small Silverlake club was first considered as a serious possibility. It turned out the Satellite guests were Mutemath, and we were back to the beginning. Where was the damn show? Was it a joke?
Then, there was another tweet just yesterday, we had to listen to Josh Homme’s weekly episode of The Alligator Hour, his show for Apple’s Beats 1 Internet radio station, when he would finally spill the beans! So much mystery, do I have time for this? Certainly not, I had a long day at work, couldn’t listen to the Josh’s Alligator Hour, but the news spread like a fireball, the show would be on Thursday night at the Teragram ballroom…. Tickets would go on sale just after the show, 8:01 pm! Damn, I am so bad at that sometimes, I like the Queens but I know how many fans adore them and the Teragram is kind of a small venue. i considered my chances very slim, and strangely there was no trace of the show anywhere, not on the Teragram website, not on Ticketmaster, but signs of the time, the show was only announced on Ticketmaster’s mobile site! I wasted some time trying to get a ticket on my computer, it was a dead end, and I finally switched to my phone. But then it didn’t get easier and I almost had a heart attack… come on it’s just a concert ticket I told myself a few times, but I was taken by the game and I fucking wanted this ticket!
I refreshed the app on my phone what it seems to be a thousand times, and everybody knows about the frustration that ensues when you can’t go through… how many times did I have to match food items, popcorn, trucks and street signs to prove I was not a robot? It was 100ºF in the house, and I was melting in front of my phone, then, I almost went through and for some reasons Ticketmaster rejected my password? After 35 minutes, I hadn’t given up yet and I finally managed to score a ticket… at last, after several days of suspense! I honestly thought I would not get one, I have been through similar experiences with other bands, but I guess QOTSA are not the Stones yet! Still, I have already seen some tickets sold for $200 on craiglist, I got mine for $50 and comedian Bill Burr is opening. I still cant believe how excited and anxious I got… it’s just a concert ticket but this kind of excitement is sometimes the only thing that makes life interesting.
