What a surprise, when you thought that a band was definitively a thing of the past, you hear they are up for a resurrection? Ex-Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle tweeted this two days ago, and that was enough to put the indie blogosphere on fire:
‘While tracking new GD LP….need to remind myself no song on sophtware slump had more than 20 tracks…. 16 on the average!’
Meaning that he was working on a new Grandaddy’s album, and had a lot of songs to choose from! Indeed, the story has been confirmed since. You have to know that the Modesto band hasn’t recorded anything for over a decade and despite a brief tour reunion in 2012, there was little hope to hear anything new from the indie band, which became so famous of the 90’s they even caught David Bowie’s attention. But fans of their complex, expansive electro-scruffy sound for the great outdoors should rejoice, the quintet is back, even though we don’t know much more than this tweet from Jason.
Meanwhile, Jason Lytle has been very busy. Beside pursuing a solo career, he has been working with his friend Aaron Espinoza (Earlimart), on the soundtrack of a movie about long distance running, ‘This is Your Day’, and you can check the result on band camp. He also has been participating into The Color Bars Experience, a project to celebrate the 15th anniversary of ‘Figure 8’, the last album recorded by his late friend Elliott Smith.
But now that their fifth album is on our way, Jason is gonna be even more busy and this old Grandaddy t-shirt gathering dust in my drawer is gonna be cool again.
