That Was The Week That Was: August 28th, 2015

The Tabs: Without a shadow of a doubt, New York Post is one of the great news papers, if their politics weren’t so right wing they would be the top of the foodchain. On the cover of Sunday’s paper, they had a report Amber Jamieson go, ahem, undercover, and work as one of those topless painted women who pose for pictures on 42nd street and decided, accurately, that it was entirely harmless. Not only did the Post make the Mayor look like a putz, they made their nemesis the Daily News look like irrational, puritanical maniacs.

Recorded: First Van Morrison released his catalog on all streaming services and if that wasn’t enough,The Weeknd dropped his new album, Yo La Tengo followed up there Fakebook masterpiece, 26 years later, and then to cap it all, Miley dropped her free (but streaming only on Soundcloud, pain in the ass) And Her Dead Petz and it is excellent. I wanna listen a coupla more times before I review.

Live: AC/DC brought the party last week, Are they old? Sure, but they rocked Metlife to its foundations and gave all the MOR rockers a lesson in form over content always.

Sports: Jets beat Giants, in a display that said more about the hideous state of the Giants defense than anything else. Meanwhile, despite a 20 – 6 beating on the Braves yesterday, the Yanks are still 1 1/2 games out of first, and the Mets won again and are six games in first.

Death: Wes Craven, the great slasher movie maker, dead at 76, neurologist and author Oliver Sacks passes, the first black man and the youngest man to get the lead in Les Miz, Jean-Claude Baptiste, fell off a fire escape at the age of 21, Melody Patterson, Wrangler Jane of F Troop to you, gone at 66.
