It is a strange thing, you never know what you are going to stumble on when you walk on Hollywood boulevard,… This Wednesday we heard a crowd cheering up around 11 am, across the Pantages theater, we got closer and it was just Mariah Carey receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Arriving just a few minutes before the diva didn’t give us the opportunity to see much, but it was too big to not check out the event. It was hot and sweaty as hell in the middle of the crowd, but people were in awe to be able to get a glimpse of the elusive chanteuse, and it was about it I could get.. a glimpse! ‘it’s an opportunity of a lifetime’ said a woman. Some fans had received yellow wristbands (I presume given by the fan club?) and could get closer, many even got the opportunity to make her sign albums and posters after the ceremony.
A few people – such as BET President of Programming Stephen Hill, directors/producers Brett Ratner and Lee Daniels and Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid – made long speeches to honor Mariah (I actually had no idea this kind of ceremony was lasting so long), then Mariah spoke a few words, then she paused for photographers for a very long time, and finally hang out with a few of her ecstatic fans…
She brought her kids with her and they were around the whole time, ‘they are so cute’, I heard a few times among the crowd. I saw mostly her back most of the time, but I saw that one of her kids (her son Moroccan) was acting up a bit and almost stole the show when Mariah was uncovering her star.
Let’s face it, Mariah may not be my cup of tea musically, but she is a star, a real one, and we don’t have a lot of them around anymore. It took her a long time to reach this point, as she was selected in 2007 to receive the star but ‘just recently set the date’. The ceremony was set for today ‘because her team wanted a date after (she) finished her sold-out Las Vegas residency’.
A few pictures here, but if you want to see much better pictures, you can always look here and here.
