First the story, via NME:
“The Faces have announced plans for a live comeback with a one-off charity gig next month (September).
Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones will reunite to headline the Rock ‘n’ Horsepower event at Surrey’s Hurtwood Park Polo Club. The annual event benefits Prostate Cancer UK and is organised by Stewart and Jones. It celebrates its third year in 2015.
“This is the third Rock ‘n’ Horsepower we’ve put on for Prostate Cancer UK and it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet,” Jones said in a statement. “The years of the Faces were some of the best of my life and I’m so proud to have been a part of the band. I’m unbelievably excited to have the opportunity to get up on stage with Rod and Ronnie again.”
Faces reunited in 2010 with Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall on lead vocals in place of Rod Stewart and played a headline set at the Vintage at Goodwood Festival. That line-up of the band then went on tour in 2011.”
Now my take.
It isn’t a Faces reunion and it wouldn’t be a Faces reunion without the late great Ronnie Lane aka Plonk. He died 18 years ago and it is like reuniting the Beatles without John Lennon), an impossibility. Or even worse, like reuniting the Beatles without George Harrison and John Lennon -since Ian McLagan died last year. Even Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood’s return can’t fill the team. Maybe the Who is a better comparison: I mean you can do it but it isn’t the Who quite: it is the WH… This is the Fas, too much is missing.
It is Rod’s fault, he dicked around too much and they kept on dropping dead on him. Let’s hope there is a tour anyway, I mean if they can substitute Stewart with Mick Hucknall, even without Mac and Plonk it should be an improvement.
