I understand less and less this pop culture, why do people say things and have to apologize the next day, it is plain ridiculous! As Iman was writing about a few days ago, rapper Meek Mill declared that Drake ‘don’t write his own raps’… According to NME, Mill has now apologized to Drake and girlfriend Nicki Minaj, stating that he was ‘upset as a fan’, whatever this means….
Then there was this other feud between Taylor Swift and Minaj, who definitively spent way too much time on Twitter with her boyfriend. Swift took offense because she thought Minaj had attacked her nomination since the rapper was making allusion at very skinny white chicks winning all the awards – and I still think Minaj was talking about Swift’s ‘Bad Blood video, because what else is there? But Taylor Swift has now apologized to Minaj, tweeting ‘I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.’ Sorry for what? Wasn’t Minaj the attacker in the story?
I know, all this is totally pointless although everyone is writing about it, but how many episodes of apologies can we endure? Why do people feel to apologize all the time after writing a so-called offensive tweet. When a celeb says/thinks something, either he or she should think twice before tweeting it or if it is already tweeted, he or she should assume the consequence of the tweet! This constant apologetic culture is a desperate way to be begging for attention, a waste of the public’s time, and a victory of the politically correct general ambiance, because nobody wants to take the risk to offend anybody… it’s weak and another sign of this wuss generation that Bret Easton Ellis is always talking about. Real rock stars should spare us from their incessant apologies, let’s keep rock & roll unapologetic, right? But I know, rock & roll had died a long time ago alas.
