Wavves’ Nathan Williams is at war, at war against his label. After posting a new song, ‘Way Too Much’ from his upcoming album, Nathan posted a series of tweets to express his anger against Warner Bros… as a matter of fact he even received this notice:
‘Our automatic content protection system has detected that your track: Wavves – ‘Way Too Much’ may contain the following copyrighted content: ‘Way Too Much’ by Wavves, owned by Warner Bros,… As a result, your track has been removed from your profile for the time being’
It is sure frustrating to read such a thing when you are the author of the song?
‘lollll keep trying @wbr you cant stop me’ tweeted Nathan
‘you dont scare me. im not scared of getting dropped or sued by u so what do u have? @wbr’, he continued and he also posted several times the cover art with: ‘they gonna try to sue me if i use the art i already had so heres my art what u gonna do with me now?? @wbr pic.twitter.com/ERNNCWRQtX’… ‘album is called ‘v’. fifth album. v. vv. vvv. a trilogy.’
And the cartoon art (look below) is quite mysterious to me, a caped man with five holy grails spilling blood? Is Williams reading Dan Brown and other Da Vinci code symbolism? I doubt but this is what came to my mind when I saw this, but honestly it could be anything you want.
In any case, Nathan Williams’ frustration with his label seems partially solved because the song is still on Soundcloud for now and I could even share it here.
No holy grail or blood of Christ in the lyrics though, just Williams feeling exhausted after ‘stumbling and looking for a purpose’…it’s a frenetic pop punk song with a big hooky chorus, a fast upbeat tune as if Weezer was going surfing, but wait, he is telling me ‘I was thinking too much’, and may be that’s what I was doing when I tried to figure out this art cover!
