Fraser A. Gorman

I didn’t know anything about Fraser A. Gorman, but I just stumbled on his new video featuring Courtney Barnett and it first attracted my only attention for this reason. The song ‘Shiny Gun’ is quite catchy with such a light Bob Dylan-esque tone that it made me smile. In the video, Fraser, plays some enthusiastic news anchor who gets disillusioned Courtney and two other guys, in the mood, with his uplifting music and a few guitars. There is a retro appeal into this, the clip has a vintage look – well it is supposed to take place in 1972 – and Fraser, with his boyish charm, curly hair and catchy folk got me at the chicken,… yes there is a bird involved for some reason, but seriously the song is quite interesting and old fashioned in a very good way. What? A young guy not preoccupied to look good behind electronics? And who said that guitar music was dead?

So we are getting many talented Australians lately. Fraser is indeed from Australia, just like his label mate Courtney Barnett, and this explains her cameo in the clip. Apparently, folk-country is well alive in Aussie country, and I can’t wait to sing along this chorus again.

The clip was directed by Sunny Leunig, and ‘Shiny Gun’ is the single of Fraser A. Gorman’s debut album, ‘Slow Gum’, which will be released on the 29th of June via Milk Records / House Anxiety / Marathon Artists. And this reminds me that I am gonna see Courtney Barnett very soon!
