Remember when Dylan Baldi was a lo fi popster in his bedroom sending songs to Bridgetown? Neither does he, now he is a big sound hard rocker with still a certain stickiness to his songs. Meanwhile, Nathan Williams had so much going for him but his Wavves really never paid off, it didn’t happen. Maybe the drugs, maybe the depression, maybe there was no way round the lo-really high sound he made. Like his girlfriend at the time, he was a manic depressive dazzled by the noon day sun.
So, according to Brooklynvegan, the two have joined together and are releasing an album together. So what do we expect? Well, vamped up Albini redux hard rockers with melody and verve is what we expect. The album is No Life For Me, ” Wavves members Stephen Pope and Brian Hill played on it, as did Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij. Release date TBA.”
I prefer Dylan to Nathan, I’ve seen both bands a few times and Wavves can edge Cloud Nothings live but Dylan is a great songwriter and I think the synergy here might well be remarkable. Both of these guys are young, so keep your fingers crossed. The duo are playing SXSW this week so a trip to nyc is probably imminent.
