At this year’s SXSW, rescue dogs will be dispatched to save cell phones dying… yep! That’s the new idea, we now need dogs to save our dying technology… Morphie Rescue is the new initiative at this year big festival, and it will use St. Bernards, these big dogs that save people lost in the mountains, to power festival goers’ cell phones when they are running out of juice.
Morphie, a company making juice pack battery cases for phones and phone chargers, is partnering with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to provide this very useful service throughout the festival. Because there is nothing people hate more than running out of battery when they are seeing their favorite band and can’t Tweet/Instagram/Facebook the whole thing! How frustrating! So what should they do? Tweet a screenshot of their dying phone battery to @mophie with the hashtag #mophierescue! But, of course, they still need to have some battery at this point…
Do these dogs also come with a little barrel of rum around their neck? Because it could be useful too! The service will be available from noon to 6 pm from Friday through Sunday, but I guess it’s not going to satisfy the millions of people attending the festival, how may of these dogs are gonna be dispatched exactly?
‘They are obviously traditionally known for saving peoples’ lives, so we took that and molded it into our own thing,’ said Mophie’s Kevin Malinowski to USA Today.
‘We’re thrilled to partner with Mophie to help raise awareness and hopefully find safe and loving homes for these dogs,’ added said Olive Ashwell, marketing manager for the foundation, ‘There’s a shared sense of passion between both our organizations as this amazing partnership launches at SXSW.’
Because, at the same time, when this big adorable dog comes to you with his juice pack battery around his neck, you may decide to keep him forever. Such a great idea… St Bernard dogs not exclusively for the Alps anymore.
