2 – Why is Costello opening for Steely Dan on what is a really pretty big tour? What sense does that mean. To be fair, Costello has played a whole lot over the past two years, you can’t throw a brick without seeing him and I personally have seen him something like five times since he opened for the Who at a charity gig a coupla years ago.
Same for Steely Dan except to a lesser extinct, I think they’ve toured every year for the past three years. Since when did SD become this heavy never enders? No, wait, I’m keen to guess. I guess even rock stars have to pay the mortgage on their Maui estate.
If you add the two acts there are bigger sheds for everyone:
“Steely Dan and Elvis Costello are hitting the road together for a summer tour. The 21-city outing kicks off at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado on July 6th and runs through the middle of August.”
Where is the similarity between these two, by the way? None I can see here. Costello is a power popper at heart (his problem is he keeps on trying to be something else) and Steely Dan are progr art rockers with a taste for jazz.
