The Segall Has Landed

Some days you wake up and a whole lotta shows go on sale and you really wanna see em and somedays they don’t. I hadn’t bought a ticket in over a week when boom boom boom, everywhere I looked, another show I wanted to see was on sale. Dig deep, Iman, I said to myself…

D’Angelo – Best Buy Theatre – Wednesday, March 11th, 2015 – After the show of the year… just about unbeatable, I mean you never kow but I don’t see how, Saturday at the Apollo, you are damn right I am gonna see the great soul man of his generation one mo’ gin.

Rhiannon Giddens – Town Hall – Thursday, April 9th, 2015 – I sweat, as God is my witness, a week ago I wasn’t a fan. Wasn’t crazy about either Carolina ChocolateDrops or New Basement Tapes and was crazy about her performance at Town Hall at T-Bone’s new folk show -though to be fair I was exhausted by then but guess what? Sonethig happened with her new album Tomorrow Is My Turn and I wanna see if she can do it o stage.

Natalie Prass – Bowery Ballroom – Monday, May 4th, 2015 – Another case where the album was a revelation, I mean a complete revelation, I’d ever heard of the country girl before. Apparently she was a 20 Feeter when she came in on her own. The hype surrounding her has been deafening but the album is real good.

Courtney Barnett – Webster Hall – Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 – Courtney’s problem is pretty much every one of her songs sounds like the one before it. Her saving grace is that the one before it is terrific.

Ty Segall – Mercury Lounge – Friday, June 26th, 2015 – Sure, he irritates the fuck outta me but saving graces for this show ? 1 – it is in a really small club, 2 – It is 730p and 3 – It’s a Friday… plus you never really know till you’ve checked em out live.
