Remember VH1’s ‘Storyteller” series? Bands would get up there and chit chat, not unlike MTVs
“Unplugged” but not quite as cool. The new season will kick off in May with bands such as Arcade Fire and Deathcab along with some other Starbucks suckers cuz yes its true- Indie Rock is the new mainstream.
“With this new season we want to go back to the original idea of great singer/songwriters who you don’t see on TV very often talking to a small audience about their inspirations — where the songs come from,” VH1 Storytellers executive producer Bill Flanagan says in a press release.
I love the idea of an musician talking and for music I enjoy I love knowing the inspiration for it. Its a great idea and when the only thing a band says to you when you see them live is “helllooooo motherfuckkkkkkerrrrrrrrrs” or “Everybody JUMP!” its just a drag. Its almost as if I wish there were a theatrical talkback. Hey Ben, what the hell is ‘Grapevine Fires” about and why are you always so dang bummed out? Its Zooey isnt it… ”
Stuff like that, the stuff we all want to know. I suppose that the artists in this case will not have much to say, but I could be wrong. Its worth looking into for Deathcab anyway, theyre somewhat fun
Hmm, Indie Rock Storytellers, consult your local listings sometime in May and get your chit chat on.
