So now that CDs are totally useless, now that mp3s, or even better, streaming is all the rage, what are you going to do with all these CDs? Mine are in the drawer chest holding my TV, but I barely look at them anymore… every single song is on my computer of course. However, I am not ready to get rid of them, but this is because I am old and still attached to physical things like CDs, the next generation who will inherit their parents’ CDs will not care anymore for these relics of the past.
So you can always resale CDs at your local used record store – however looking at the ridiculous prices at Amoeba, you won’t be able to get much of them – or you can use your imagination and make all kinds of things. Bored Panda is already proposing magnificent ideas, and sure not everyone is an artist and can make these things, but it is worth looking at them. Here is the list:
– Animal sculptures made of CD pieces: For this one you need some serious skills and a lot of patience.
– A mosaic tile birthbath: very cool, but I wonder if the birds aren’t going to be blinded by the sun reflected by these CD debris.
– A guitar covered by CD pieces: whatever your guitar skill, you can’t go unnoticed with this thing, may be a bit too girlie for guys?
– A mirror or photo frame: fine, a bit kitsch, but be careful as I am not sure how well these things age.
– A wastelandscape: you have to look at this one to believe it (photo above), and you need to be an avid buyer!
– A jewelry box: in the same vein than the mirror, kitsch and I am not very into jewelry.
– A mosaic flower pot: I like this one, it’s cool but it’s mosaic again!
– A mosaic table: yeah mosaic, we get it!
– Christmas Ornaments and Christmas tree: seem appropriate, it’s shiny and useless, like CDs…
– Kleenex box décor: not very different from the rest.
– Mosaic shoes: I would never go there.
– Coasters: a lazy solution, no cutting involved.
– A door: If you think you are living in a castle of crystal or something like that.
– A collar, bracelet: a bit too Nefertiti or Roman princess to me, I don’t wear this type of things.
– A clock: Not sure how this one gives you the time.
– A cap covered by CD pieces: If you want to be the human disco ball at the party, be my guest
– A curtain: a look a bit retro for some reasons..
And there are many more propositions on the site. But you got it, be crafty, don’t throw your old CDs, they are mostly good for making mosaic and mosaic on everything, and when you house and wardrobe resemble an archaeological Roman site, you may stop and threw these CDs away.
