Bob Dylan At The Grammys -by Alyson Camus and Iman Lababedi

Alyson Sez:
There are so many artists scheduled to perform during next Sunday Grammy ceremony – if you can call Katy Perry and Justin Bieber artists – from Arcade Fire, to Eminem, the two Ladies Gaga and Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Muse, Janelle Monae, Drake, Rihanna, Barbara Streisand…

Raphael Saadiq and Michael Jagger, who has never performed at the Grammy, will perform a tribute to Solomon Burke, Cee Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow will be doing a duo on ‘Fuck you’ or will it be the lame version ‘Forget you’?

Meanwhile Yolanda Adams, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Florence Welch will pay homage to Aretha Franklin’s career, some sort of get-well wishes to the queen of soul who had some serious health problems recently.

But yesterday, Bob Dylan was added to the long list, as he will be performing alongside Mumford and Sons and the Avett Bros.

So the 53rd Grammy Awards will bring a little bit of everything, for all ages,… Biebert and Dylan in the same show? It must be one of these parallel-universe-collision episodes.

Iman sez:
Anybody who saw Bob Dylan receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991, will never easily forget it. First, in the middle of the Gulf War Part I, he played “Masters Of War”. And then he gave one of the great speeches of our time. Taken from the Torah,, he gave a speech at the Grammy and didn’t thank a damn person. I had no intention of watching the Grammys (except like the first half hour… now I might have to stay up for Dylan.
Here is his speech, which I can say from memory and I don’t even believe in God particularly:
“Well,, “my daddy, he didn’t leave me much, you know he was a very simple man,
but what he did tell me was this, he did say, son, he said”

– “he say, you know it’s possible to become so defiled in this world
that your own father and mother will abandon you and if that happens,
God will always believe in your ability to mend your ways.”
In this world we must believe in redemption whever we can find it.

Amen.
