I hate the term conspiracy theory, it makes me think about some out-of-work and crazy guy sitting in front of his computer and obsessively looking for evidence about some dead-end story. I am a very rational person and when reasonable doubt subsist about stories we are fed with, I am skeptical. I was born skeptical anyway. So when I read on Thursday afternoon that the Kurt Cobain death investigation was reopened, I got immediately intrigued and hopeful as I have never been satisfied with the official story, full of holes and question marks.
Let’s see, could a guy, even with a high level of tolerance, shoot himself in the head while having such a large dose of heroin in the system (Cobain had three times the lethal dose of heroin)? Keep in mind that the level found in Cobain is among the top 2% of the highest blood morphine levels ever discovered, even in severe addicts. Plus, violence is probably the last thing a heroin addict is prone to, heroin being a strong inhibitor and every study shows that such a high dose leads to instant collapse or abrupt death. Why didn’t the police find this highly unusual? Was Cobain’s suicide letter really a suicide letter? It has been often reported that the last four lines were written in a different style, may be not written by the same person. Plus the police wasn’t able to find any fingerprint on the gun, really? Who used Cobain’s credit card (missing from his wallet) after his death? And there are serious rumors that Cobain had enough of the music industry and Nirvana, that he wanted a divorce: he has had his Will re-done in March 1994 excluding Courtney but didn’t finalized it, and Love’s attorney said that Courtney wanted her to get ‘meanest, most vicious divorce lawyer’…
There are many websites dedicated to Kurt Cobain’s case, you can read a LOT about it in just a few minutes and all these information lead me to believe the case is blurry, and not a clear cut suicide. I have known for a long time that there are a lot of unanswered questions, and that’s why I was immediately interested by the idea of a reopened investigation,…. But not so fast. Since the announcement, Seattle police killed any hope. Detective Mike Ciesynski explained to KIRO 7, a local Seattle TV station, that he was asked to re-examined the case because it has been 20 years since Cobain died and because ‘there were always these conspiracy theorists out there and so I was asked to look at the case and review it.’ Nevertheless they have not reopened the case, rather they wanted to kill any rumor related to old unprocessed photos: last month police developed 4 rolls of films that had been sitting in the police evidence vault and had never been processed. Ciesynski explained that polaroid photos were taken and apparently the police didn’t even bother to look at these other films. The pictures are described as having ‘a slight green tint because of deterioration’ and showing more clearly ‘the scene than the earlier Polaroid photos taken by investigators’. However, nothing new has surfaced. Ciesynski nailed down the case as suicide one more time: ‘Kurt went up there for one purpose, which was to commit suicide, he declared to the TV station, ‘And I believe he did not want to be found and be revived, so he wanted to make a sure way to kill himself.’
Yeah sure, and everything I have alluded to above is just my imagination? The police will never admit that have butchered an investigation anyway. Why do they need to re-examine a case which is so clearly a suicide? Why do they need to justify themselves one more time? Police can say whatever they want but for me the fact that these pictures were left undeveloped for 20 years, because judged redundant with the polaroid photos, show how much energy and insight they have demonstrated at the time. I am almost tempted to edit this new picture of the death scene with red marks in Paint, à la CL, but I will abstain out of respect for Kurt.
