Fearless Records used to be one of my favorite labels. A stable of pop punk ( a fake genre btw- who dreamed that one up?) pretty boys with angsty love lyrics and a quick tempo. Now they’re as stale as old biscuits with a roster of the same old same and really nothing much to offer to get stoked about.
Predictable and stagnant bands like Mayday Parade need off that label before they fall faster into nothingness. I blame a bad promotional department for the boring offerings. Fearless was kick ass, but it seems they got a bit too comfy and if you cant launch talent like Mayday Parade in over 5 years… youre doing a disservice to all involved.
Their latest offering is yet another in the “Punk Goes’ series. A series in which their clients perform a classic tune of a decade or genre- basically its cover night. I lived for these and I will most likely enjoy a tune or two, but enough already- the one trick pony should really be sent to pasture. This series must be the financial bread and butter otherwise why on Earth would it keep happening?
Interestingly its available on April 1, so its also a joke. Asking Alexandria doing Nine Inch Nails? Are you kidding me, but dont worry Mayday Parade is on this one a-g-a-i-n. As is Yellowcard, Breathe Carolina, and the same old pantry staples they always offer. What makes this even more pathetic is the ‘bundle’s deals. C’mon really? Cassettes and posters and other garbage to accompany the release? The 11 year old girls are doing alot of cleaning so their parents will get them this offering. Repackaged sameness from a label who’s lost its balls.
Oh and to prove this is still a staple the ‘punk goes’ series has its own website…sad. There is nothing ‘fearless’ about mediocrity. There is nothing ‘punk’ about this…other than the fact that it disgusts.
