Lars Frederiksen is a 40yr old guitarist most notably from the band Rancid.
Rancid I have alot of respect for they have done alot to keep punk pure and Tim Armstrong was a pal of Strummers so hes tops in my books
Lars has a new band. “The Old Firm”, which according to their Facebook page has just been renamed to ‘The Old Firm Casuals”…
TOFC genre is claimed as “oi”.
Now it is 2011, do you know what oi is?
Here is the definition:
Oi is a working class street-level subgenre of punk rock that originated in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The music and associated subculture had the goal of promoting unity between punks, skinheads and other non-aligned working class youths.
A rather dated genre in this time of all for one mentality where Goths and emos and hardcores are all at the same show without riot.
In other words.
Its stupid to title yourself an ‘Oi Band’ in 2011.
But this is an indication of the out of touch of their age.
Oi was huge in my day cuz in my day you fought for your scene. Today you fight for nothing more than your spot in front of the stage.
Anyway The Old Firm Casualties were formed in October and will be releasing a seven-inch vinyl single “soon.”
Which also shows their age since NO ONE HAS A TURNTABLE anymore.
