Do The Savoy -by Woody Fuller

Need to get my dub funk fix from somewhere, this week I have been re-visiting Savoy. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Savoy gives their listeners some unique electronica; enough bass for the bassheads, enough rhythm and jive for the dancers, great dance music tunes.

I saw them open for Pretty Lights two  years ago in NC before I knew who PL was.  I remember after their set being completely satisfied with the crazy dancing I had just done, thinking they were actually PL and getting ready to leave.. But then Derek Smith came on stage, and the rest is history. Back to savoy..

“Nothin for Nothin” is only 6 tracks, but they all rock. No need to skip any, jut press play, and be prepared for what might go down in the next 35 minutes. I’ve witnessed entire house dance parties emerge out of no where, clothes flying everywhere, people who you didn’t even know listened to anything but NPR dancing like it’s 1999, sweating like they just ran the 26.3 mike NY marathon.

Their remix to “hella good” is hella great, ( wow I just used hella in a sentence.) “Life of the Party” is a dope song as well.

My friend Mr. Franรงois, had the privilege of rocking with them at Red Rocks in Boulder, CO a few months ago, and added “Yeah, opening for Savoy was really cool. They are good friends of mine, so it was awesome getting together and raging a sold out show.”  To the lucky mofos who were at that show, sorry but I hate you.. hate you with love.

I just went on their myspace and heard a funky remix to “We No Speak Americano,” which once was a good song, but then the @$$ heads from Jersey Shore made some video with it, and that song went in the toilet, ( where everyone from Jersey Shore should be too). Savoy has helped wipe that song clean and back into the air.

They are always on tour, and doing a bunch of routing with STS9, def try and catch em if you can. Keep on dancing.
