In 1912 the Picasso fashioned a guitar from cardboard, paper, string, and wire, materials he cut, folded, threaded, and glue. Nothing like it done before and although it wasn’t a working model it was cool rocker chic, long before rockers even existed.
Two years later he banged a guitar sculpture out of sheet metal
Now you can see these guitars at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC from February 13- June 6.
Picasso: Guitars 1912–1914 brings together some seventy closely connected collages, constructions, drawings, paintings, and photographs assembled from over thirty public and private collections kinda shows how diverse and ‘ahead of his time’ Pablo was
