Olin And The Moon's Bright Residency -by Alyson Camus

Not only we have free residencies on Mondays in LA, but they also exist on Tuesdays in some clubs, and I definitively have to check the Tuesday residents at the Echo next week: Olin and the Moon.

Listening to a few of the songs on their facebook page, I can tell that the LA quintet has a real country heart, with strings and steel guitars, and some of the melodies were sort of reminding me Bright Eyes! Yes, just listen to ‘Call me up’, even the tone of the voice and the way the syllabus are articulated give this impression. And when the ‘Call me up’ comes, it’s definitively very Conor! Ok the lyrics seem way less cryptic,…  may be I am completely off, but I’ll see live.

Anyway, they seem to play a familiar alternative folk-country, full of loneliness and heartbreaks, which makes you feel right away at home, a comfy and touching atmosphere, but exciting enough to keep you interested.

The band is led by singer and songwriter David LaBrel, while his brother Travis is on guitar, with Marshall Vore on Drums as well as Brian McGinnis and Kyle Vicioso. Most of them are from Idaho, where they formed around 2006, but as many other musicians, they have found a new home in Los Angeles since 2007.

They have just released their new and third album ‘Footsteps’, yesterday, and they are celebrating each Tuesday at the Echo. And if you are over 21, it’s free for you.
