Mobile phone operator Cricket Communications Inc., from San Diego, is about to introduce a new plan, Muve Music, which will allow us to talk, surf the web, send text messages, stream videos, and … download unlimited music for $55 a month. It’s not that bad considering what everyone is paying right now just for phone and internet access, and the new thing is the music download.
The bad news is that you will not technically own the music you have downloaded: that means that you’ll not be able to transfer it on your computer or iPod for example, plus you will not have access to the music anymore if you cancel your subscription!
The company claims this is the first music service of its kind in the wireless market.
Is this a new trick to dissuade people from downloading music illegally? And so does this mean my iPod will soon be useless?
