My Fave Songs, Friday, December 24th, 2010 -by Iman Lababedi

1. Christmas On riverside Drive – August Darnell – It brings a calypso Christmas to Harlem and the spirit of the season, a style and sensibility. Now this is one of the greats.
2. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey – This is shamanism pure and simple. How the hell did she pull off this classic. A sheer joy, immortalized in “Love Actually” actually, which you have to see if you haven’t seen it yet.
3. Santa Bring My Baby Back To Me – Elvis Presley – Sure, “Blue Christmas” is the sexy one. This is the Presley who can pull off novelty songs like “Teddy Bear”. I sing back up when he sings “Hear my plea”, I throw in a coupla “ooooh, Santa”…
4. Here Comes, Santa – Bob Dylan – Whether a doubt the weirdest fucking thing I’ve heard in my life but it makes me laugh so how can bad can it be?
5. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) – Look, sure Mary Wells ain’t worried but I swear Bono kills on this. If there is a more satisfying thing to do if you’re alone and heartbroken on New Year’s Eve than singalong with Bono to “Baaaaaby please come home” I don’t know what it is.
6. White Christmas – Bing Crosby
7. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Judy Garland
8. Christmas Calculator – Titus Andronicus
9. Christmas Time – Brian Wilson
10. Christmas _ The Who – Tis the season to… er, But but but TOMMY DOESN’T KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS
