David Byrne’s ‘Here Lies Love’ At The Public Theater in NYC

art music for art people who boogie

David Byrne is bringing his weird ass shit back to nyc this spring and he wants you to dance along.  The “Here Lies Love” disco partay is about take over the city in an open ended run.

The show is about Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the Philippines, you know, the one with all the shoes.  Will return to its starting ground at the  Public’s home in March, but this time as a commercial venture.

The poppy, techno score is laced with Byrne’s dreamy style and features additional input provided by Fatboy Slim. The audience – the space fits less than 200 – is forced to stand, move around or dance.

I’ll stand thanks.  So a 200 person room filled with techno on the topic of shoes.  Sounds about right considering the eccentricity of David Byrne.

“The theater is transformed into a beaming night club with strobe lights, flat-screen displays, wall-to-wall digital projections and a DJ while the actors jump around on platforms.” says the Associated Press.

I cant think of anything more uncomfortable in theater than audience participation.  I’m from the sit down, shut up and watch, school of entertainment so the last thing I would want is LaFondas weave slapping me in the head when shes busting a spin, dig?

The Public Theater has brought odd shows and Shakespeare to the world for over 60 years, I’m thinking this is a perfect fit for the dancing hipster on your list.

G’won git your boogie shoes.  Ticket info is not yet available- but– it will be here, publictheater.org
