When I was a kid Herb Alpert (who I called Herp Albert) was a household icon.  His pervert album covers were atop the Victrola, as it was called, and I thought he was a fox.  Even looking at old pictures now, I was right.  The dude is a fox!

Figure all he did was lead a band, look awesome and blow a horn- Bingo! Superstar.  Well, that fox is nearly 80 now and whats a boy to do?  Make art!  I should say that Herb does still perform and is a well dressed man about town but right now and  until April 15 you can see a bit of him right outside Lincoln Center.

The sculptures are called “Spirit Totems.” Alpert was inspired by the totem poles seen in the Pacific Northwest.   The three totems are “Grace,” which stands over 15 feet tall; “Freedom,” which stands at just under 17 feet tall; and “Gratitude,” which measures at just over 17 feet tall. They’re made of bronze with a black finish. Alpert has been working on totems since 2000.

I should warn you though, none of them are covered in whipped cream.  In writing this I went back to listen to some of Alpert’s music. First off everything sounds like a 70s game show theme.  It is a blast from the past that pretty much drove me insane.  Just the pitch alone was like nails on a chalk board.  Is this what is considered ‘beautiful music’?  Don’t get me wrong, i adore it for it’s nostalgic value and there is heaps there- but that whole bongo and trumpet bit is enough to make me go insane.

But there is this- and incredibly hot girl licking the infamous whipped cream off her finger and the ever so catchy ‘Tijuana Taxi’, g’head, try and sit still through this one.
