My Fave Tracks, Friday, November 26th, 2010 -by Iman Lababedi

1. Peggy Sue Got Married – Buddy Holly – the single version, ergo the acoustic version. It is a touch better -there is an aching longing to it, the album versions revs its engines and is all joy at the good news. The single version reminds you that Buddy had been in love with her.
2. Old – Paul Simon – Simon’s “Peggy Sue”rewrite has the best verse ever written about Holly:
The first time i heard “Peggy Sue”
I was 12 years old
Russians up in rocket ships
and the war was cold
now many wars have come and gone
Genocide still goes on
Buddy Holly still goes on
but his catalog was sold…”
…to Paul McCartney, who lost the Beatles back catalogue to Michael Jackson. Jackson has just signed a ten album contract (I know, I know) with Sony. Unfortunately, they appear to be having problems finding any usable material.
3. Disordered – Joy Division – The live at the Factory from 1979 version which rocks its way to order.
4. Good Friday – Kanye West
5. We R Who we R – Ke$ha – I can’t hear this… the problem is her vocals are too stylistically rigid. It is more of the same.
6. Who’s That Chick (feat Rihanna) – David Guetta – Better than anything on Loud and Loud is a good album.
7. Independent Thinkers – Mike Ogletree – It is like Ian Anderson mugged Peter Tosh.
8. Runaway – Kanye West – I wanna 20 minute version
9.  Dallas – Alan Jackson – Thinking on an Alan Jackson post. This song is awesome.
10. Love The Way You Lie Part II – Rihanna And Eminem – It’s like being stuck on the aisle seat while the couple next to you bicker all the way to L.A.
