Yes, You was one of the best albums of 2013 and Jahn Xavier and the Bowerytones record release part won’t soon to forgotten by those lucky enough to have caught. I did and here is my review and believe my if anything I underestimated it.
So news Jahn is back at Arlene’s Grocery is indeed tidings of great joy and since it is an 8pm a bit of a mixed blessing. We like 8pm because we get home at a reasonable time but we are pissed because that means we’re getting 45 minutes instead of 90 minutes and, given Jahn is gonna throw a wider net than the Yes, You centric September gig. We dream of some Nitecaps material but in a 45 minute set it may well remain a gig.
But whatever, take the 45 minutes of the Bowerytones, a band so fresh and exciting and powerful it makes you feel like everybody else is in some way joking you, and run with it: soul is soul and Jahn has so much he will knock you for a loop. What Jahn offers is the depest of deep soul yet with his New Wave roots constantly spiking through and a conviction so strong the set rattles your teeth and pounds your heart into submission.
Jahn Xavier And the Bowerytones will be back Wednesday, February 19th at Arlene’s Grocery. 8pm. I’ll be there for sure, do yourself a favor and check out a true American classic.
