Monday Morning Rock: There Went the Weekend -by Iman Lababedi

1. Untitled – Weekend – Rhythmic experimentation leading back into the guitars. the drum pattern is a gift from the gods. off daytrotter so get it for free.

2. Amber – Veelee – One Of Paul Finn’s, sounds like George Harrison’s guitar fronted by Liz Phair. Beautiful lick.

3. Career Opportunities – The Clash – The one off Sandinista with the children’s choir. And as timely today as it was 30 years ago.

4. Running Up That Hill – Kate Bush – Without this? No Lilly, no Tori, no Marina, no Florence. No nothing.

5. Monkey Man – the Rolling Stones – Oh look, it’s the greatest rock and roll band in the world being the greatest rock and roll band in the world.

6. Kiss Me Thru the Phone – Souldja Boy – I do that to my girl Cyn all the time and she says i sound like a turkey! meh!

7. Somebody to Love – Usher – Nothing much but a pretty good drum pattern saves it.

8. Tomorrow Is A Long Time – Bob Dylan – Nice try, but once Presley covers ones of your songs? It belongs to him.

9. Fool’s Paradise – Buddy Holly – Sweet as candy floss, tough as nails.

10. Streets Of Paris – The Teenagers – Greatest French rock band ever, yeah, better than Plasticines.

11. Come And get It -Eli “Paperboy” Roth – The biz is so buzy, this ain’t a crossover soul hit.

12. Caravan Of Love – The Housemartins – Love Heaton’s voice. Love it.

13. Death of  A Clown – the Kinks – If all Dave did was write this song he would be more than just ray’s kid brother.

14. Just Snap Your Finger – Marshall Crenshaw – Best song off his excellent Jaggedland. or does excellent mean nothing? Maybe Crenshaw should be graded on a curve. Compared to the rest of the World: an A. Compared to his own stuff:, the song is a “B”, the album a C+.

15. Elevation – U2 – No, really, they were this good once. Though I think “Beautiful Day” was the beginning of the end.

16. Shattered – the Rolling Stones – How can you write better than this? I don’t think it is actually possible to write a better song. And sex? And sex and sex and sex…

17. I Want To Know – Drop the Lime – From 2008 and I still can’t figure out what the fuck he is doing. I mean I get the vocals, it’s the synth bleeps I can’t understand.

18. Crazy – Gnarls Barkely – Yeah, I know. But “Run” is still better.

19. Kill Me Carolyn – the Whigs – Power pop with a grungy type vocal.

10. Endless Cycle – Lou Reed – from his last great album. maybe not. From his last masterpiece. yeah, I’d say that.
