My Pet Dragon’s problem has been it has had the sound but not the songs to back it. A power rock band with an immense sound, tit nails you with its energy and just plain thickness but, once it gets you go you are left feeling a little down.
“Flow” off their upcoming album, gets it complete right. This is a huge jump forward, a song with hit plastered on its face, and a calling card for the next year. The singer/back up singer and the U2 via Pearl Jam (the flip side is a cover of “Release”) battery of sound does exactly what Todd Michaelsen has been trying to but only succeeding in doing intermittently: it makes your spirit soar. The song lifts you up against your will.
That’s a trick exceedingly few bands can pull off and it takes time to learn it and now My Pet Dragon knows it.
