My Fave Tracks, Friday November 12th, 2010 -by Iman Lababedi

1. One Night – Bryan Ferry – When you write this much about music, your reader (s?) should have an idea of your taste. But my taste isn’t about sound, it is about feel, so it doesn’t really rest in genre and band. I’ve heard Presley’s version of this song maybe a billion times. But I never noticed “Don’t call my name, it makes me feel so ashamed”. “Shame” is a GREAT ROCK AND ROLL WORD.Ferry’s deep, resonant drama is understated in a manner unbelievable from the maker of These Foolish Things.
2. It Won’t Be Long – The Beatles – If you are stuck on post Rubber Soul, go backwards to the beginning. Off their second UK album, check out the closing, “It won’t belong till I belong to you…”
3. Runaway – Kanye West – One of the greatest songs West has ever written. up there with “Golddigger”.
4. Mojo So Dope – Kid Cudi – as above but the comparison is “Pursuit”.
5. Blue Skies – Noah And the Whale – Belle And Sebastian wrote the blueprint. Here, Noah take it and tear it up and rewrite. “This is the last song that I write while I’m still in love with you…” Meh to Laura Marling.
6. All I Want (London Sessions) – LCD Soundsystem
7. Flying Overseas – Thelophilus London (feat Devonte Hynes and Solange Knowles) – If he becomes a big star? I’m contracting his name to Theo.
8.Perfect Day – Susan Boyle
9. You Rascal You – Hanni el Khatib – Plays a mean guitar -it is all rhythm, but I still prefer Lymon’s version.
10. Hello Goodmorning – Sick Of Sarah – I get that a lot.
