Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious Lael Summer this Wednesday! I saw Lael two years ago one summer evening and was pretty much blown away by this lovely and gifted youngest member of the True Groove family. Her mother is performance artist Marla Mase and the Tomas Doncker Band plays back up and if that wasn’t reason enough to check her out Wednesday night at the Cutting Room, then how about this? This is the release party for her excellent Burden To Bear debut album.
But Tomas promises that this will become a party for all things True Groove and if ever a sound was coming into its own, that sound is the True Groove label. Everything Tomas has touched for the past year has been magical and since signing with the Orchard, everything is getting better and better.
Tomas recently sent me the True Groove All Stars version of Curtis Mayfield’s “We’re A Winner” and I plan to scream till they play it so they have been warned!!!
