The Young Vein’s pretty pretty ballad “Nothing Matters But Would You” should come as a surprise to no one. Obviously from the same hand that brought us Panic’s superior ”Foklin’ Around”, both songs are borderline, if not novelty, genre exercises..
“Folkin’ Round” is orchestrated folk with a very clever lyric, “Nothing Matters But You” an over-orchestrated pop song with a lyric so straight it borders on satire.
But borders.
Because if the lyric isn’t entirely sincere it feels sincere because the melody is sticky tape on your heart. There is an icky obsessiveness to it all that works very, very well.
