Joy Division Interzone Demo Is Ultimate Version Of Rock In Rock Band

Based upon a series of images inspired by William Burroughs” beat junk novel “Naked Lunch”, Joy Division’s “Interzone” is a death rattle image of despair and death that reminds me of Moss Side on a rainy Sunday night.

I have four versions of the Unknown Pleasures track. One early, one late, both plenty aggressive, the original which seems a little stoic and best of all the very very clean and crunch RCA demo version. It is a pure sound: every crank of the guitar, every bass riff -I hadn’t realized how much the song owed to the bass, and Curtis vocal which is almost like speaking in song.

A real keeper and easy to buy on Itunes: best bit? Curtis imitating a siren.
