The British band The Charlatans were supposed to play at Amoeba this last Wednesday to support the release of their 11th album, ‘Who we Touch’, but the show was canceled at the last minute.
I was wondering why and I have just learnt the very, very sad reason: their drummer Jon Brookes has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. He collapsed and stopped breathing while performing in Philadelphia last week, and after receiving treatment in the US, he is now preparing for his operation, back in the UK.
They are planning to continue their UK tour and have announced that The Verve’s Pete Salisbury will replace Brookes for the October dates.
The band recently declared: ‘The Charlatans touring schedule remains unaltered whilst the band arrange for a short-term replacement. The band and Jon would like to thank all well-wishers for their kind messages of support.’
What a terribly sad news! Of course, we all wish him a full and fast recovery.
