I have been listening to Miniature Tigers album FORTRESS for months now. Missed them at Mercury Lounge (a ridiculous midnight set… midnight???) but I still have te album on my Ipod shuffle and whenever a song shows up it always takes me by surprise. I double check who it is. Yeah, “Rock And Roll Mountain” -man, that sounds a lot like Saint Motel!
Of the electronic wonder “Goldskull”, produced by Neon Indian, is their calling card: a weird as fuck song about drugs? paranoia? loneliness? as a nursery rhyme of despair.
And so it goods. Every song is kinda killa, the Yi-yi-yi’s of “Bullfighter Jacket”, the moody “Lolita”, the good naturedly bizarre “Japanese Woman Living In My closet”: the sorta story Nick Lower used to rattle off in song plus a wonder of a chorus.
