Julian Lennon’s Impressionistic Pictures by Alyson Camus

It is not everyday that you can see Julian Lennon, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, Cynthia Lennon, and May Pang, Lennon’s girlfriend during his break-up with Yoko, in the same room. But this is what happened last Thursday at the New York’s Morrison Hotel Gallery as they all came for the opening of Julian’s ‘Timeless’ photo exhibit.

I had no idea he was taking pictures, and beautiful ones.

The imagepeace.com page lets us see a few of them and I just regret that only the ones about landscapes are featured on the page:

There is apparently another series of shots of U2 in concert and writing for their upcoming album, and a portrait of Kate Hudson at a piano. Lennon likes U2 and admits: ‘They’re mates, so if they’re on the road and I’m in the neighborhood, I’m there.’ A picture also features Bono sitting underneath a headshot of John Lennon.

All this is too bad, Bono sure never misses an opportunity! The whole thing was U2’s idea as they approached Julian Lennon because they were looking for a studio to finish some tracks of their album, and so he invited them in his 14th century home in the south of France.
But I must say that the landscapes are stunning, and two of them, ‘Reflexion’ with its fuzzy images of pink houses reflecting at the surface of water, and ‘Zebrak’ with its purple and orange pointillist trees have a likeness of color with 19th century impressionistic paintings which is absolutely striking. The other ones are less Monet-esque but impressive too.

‘Christ, you know it ain’t easy/You know how hard it can be’, how hard it can be to be John’ s son. Julian’s music career has been somewhat inconsistent, and may be it is a new way to show what talent he really has.
