In the current issue of Rolling Stone there is a three page “Promotion ” fo Weezer at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas October 1st to 3rd.
Let’s leave aside the question of corporate cock sucking and go straight to conflict of interest. How a magazine whose job it is to criticize popular music present a rock band?
What gives?
When did this become Okay? Did I miss the meeting where there wasn’t a self evident conflict of interest where rock bands are paid for by the magazines who are making money from the performance of rock bands?
Look, I am sure you and I have one thing in common in this world, we don’t believe a fucking word rolling Stone writes. But even so, I am sure both of us hope this is something in the nature of sour grapes ro some degree. Sure they get on their knees and blow Bono all the time. We consider it an indiscretion and laugh to ourselves and figure they in their own little 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 way have some modicum of integrity.
But no, not really. No, they don’t.
As for Weezer. Going to the majors made em corporate but I bet returning to the the indies hasn’t freed em any more.
