Imagine if Bootsy Collins’ funk and Prince’s synths had a baby, and that baby grew up with Dr. Dre’s cool and a hipster following. This is where Dam Funk comes from. He encompasses the rebirth of Funk, and he does it like no one else could.
Combining the best elements of new electronic experimentation and old disco funk boogie, Dam Funk has successfully translated the feeling of riding down Sunset Blvd on a Friday evening with the top down onto wax. And I mean he does that for every song. From remixes (Animal Collective) to guest production (MC Eiht) to solo albums (Toeachizown), Dam Funk hasn’t just made a name for himself in the funk world, he has created a modern movement.
His newest release is part of Dr. Martens’ 50th Anniversary project, where the legendary shoe company got 10 hot artists to remix 10 classic songs (of all genres), all while 10 up-and-coming directors put together music videos for the remixes. Dam Funk masterfully remixed The Human League’s “Things That Dreams Are Made Of.” Funk actually takes the reigns himself and sings on the track, and his signature spaced-out ‘Funkmosphere’ sound takes the song to new heights that only Dam Funk himself could take it.

When he gets back from blessing Europe with his Boogie/Funk/Electro hits, he will rock the stage at MoogFest 2010 in October. The best part is, as his new song with MC Eiht proclaims, he does it all while keeping his “Hood Pass Intact.” Church!
