Two Brooklynites, Mercy and Pete Hype, once on solo musical paths, linked up, had unremarkable onstage chemistry and never looked back..
They are alt/rock band, Riot !n Paris, but each are hip/hop artists and quite talented lyricists. This nice n’ smooth flow, over some harder background sound really works for them, in song like “Attack of the 5′ hipster” and “I Like Da Gurz,” great fusion between rock and hip/hop. They also do a song with the phonemeinal John Legend, “Dumb Luv”, which is obviously more down-tempo but still has a great vibe and sense of real hip/hop to it. They also have quite the dopest of band names, if I do say so myself.
They’re making strides for themselves as artists with their unique approach to the music video, leaps and bounds ahead of other new artists, which is a lost art in my mind. They have revamped everything I thought I knew about music videos. They made, possibly the first ever, choose your own adventure music video, to their banger “Attack of the 5′ hipster”. In which, every 1-2 mins the video pauses, music still jammin and you get to click on 2-3 choices for the next segment of your adventure. For example, Mercy starts in the bedroom with a pretty cute girl, when he gets a text from Pete, now he can either 1.”get his freak on”, 2.meet Pete in the subway or 3.meet him at the neighborhood bodega. And the choice is all up to me. Each path takes you on a wild a crazy expedition meeting alot of characters you never thought would cross your path. Where will it all take you? FIND OUT!
Kanye West recently posted their video onto his blog, ( not as good as rocknyc, but he’s trying) check it out, you can obviously find it on youtube and their site as well.
Still up in the air, but you might get a chance to see Riot !n Paris at ‘4TheLove Music Fest’ at Don Hills on Aug 21st.
Look out for these cats down the road, they are doing big things in the music world; and by down the road I really mean right now.
