The good surprise of the show at the Troubadour on Sunday night was the opening band Grouplove, a five-piece band of young and extremely enthusiastic musicians, which captivated the public at the first note.
Coming from New-York, London and Los Angeles, they all met during an art residency in Crete where they began making music together. Since, they all have moved to Los Angeles to record their first EP, and if you find the moniker they chose for their band too sweet and naïve, it truly translates the friendship between Christian Zucconi, Sean Gadd, Hannah Hooper, Ryan Rabin, and Andrew Wessen.
On stage, they had tons of energy and at the top of their big explosive sound, they maintained a high level of harmony, especially when the voices of Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper mixed together.
‘Colours’, the song posted on their myspace that reminds me the most the sonic energy of their live performance, has this sing-at-the-top-of your-lungs side, this inspirational anthem side you don’t want to forget soon.
Should I dare to say they could be some baby Arcade Fire with more vocal harmonies and no pretentiousness at all? I just want to see them live again!
Go to their myspace and listen to ‘Colours’ or ‘Naked Kids’:
