It’s difficult to decipher the truth in this day and age. The internet, with its overwhelming load of info coming from every direction and source, really confuses me sometimes! And when something like this shows up, I wonder… it could be true, it’s not even exaggerated that much! I let you be the judge: according to the Daily Currant, Kanye West is again the target of criticism for having declared in an interview with WGCI radio in Chicago:
‘I am the next Nelson Mandela, I’m only 36 years old, and when I look at everything I’ve accomplished, it’s the only comparison that makes any sense. By the time I’m 95, I’m going to be a bigger hero than he ever was.’
He has compared himself to everybody at the surface of the Earth who is either famous, rich or successful, and he has declared himself being the next Michael Jordan, the reincarnation of Steve Jobs or Shakespeare, he has declared himself being more important than Rosa Parks or other icons, so why not Mandela?
‘Nelson Mandela did a lot of good work, don’t get me wrong. But I think I’m on track to do something even bigger. I liberate minds with my music. That’s more important than liberating a few people from apartheid or whatever.’
Almost too ‘good’ to be true… Anyone who has read or seen any interview of Kanye West knows that this is something he could have said, but despite the total credibility of the whole thing – that you can read here – it’s totally fake! What?? Yeah, the interview was completely made up and I believed it for a little while like everyone else! I like this ‘apartheid or whatever’ turning such an essential historical episode into triviality, it sounds so Kanye! Just like most of the rest:
‘Not to mention I have a bigger market than he ever did. Mandela was working in South Africa, which has, like what, six people? I started my magic here in the USA and then I took my business global. Worldwide baby.’
People got furious! Lots of people found it extremely disrespectful! For whom? Kanye West? And that was crazy because the joke was on him, not on Mandela!! I’d certainly hope everyone would understand this, but the fact that so many people took it for the truth without questioning even a minute the interview, tells a lot about West’s public image. May be the Currant has said it before Kanye had the chance to say it! Never mind, he will probably apologize soon anyway.
