Who Needs A Record Label? A Day To Remember's "Common Courtesy" Sells 92K Copies

Neilsen Soundscan verifies that the band sold 40,550 copies through their own digital direct to fan presale as well as 52,324 albums through traditional retail outlets such as Best Buy, iTunes and Hot Topic. In total, the new album has sold 92,874 copies in the US alone. The album will not debut on the Billboard chart this week due to the untraditional nature of this release but the band is very thankful for the overwhelming support and loyalty of their fans. Had Common Courtesy been eligible the band would have had a Top 10 debut this week.

What the heck is going on in the music business?  You dont need a label, you dont need a deditcated PR you only need a product, social media and a fabulous relationship with your fans to make a successfull album.

A Day To Remember has had all kinds of trouble with its label Victory Records and now it’s proved they can sell without their backing!

“This proves that the days of needing huge record contracts are over, and that all that really matters are the fans,” remarked lead singer Jeremy McKinnon. “Thank you for the support.”

But how does this transfer to payroll? Can a band financially survive from record sales without the infamous ‘advance’ ?  ADTR never stops touring.  If you miss them this go round, fear not!  Theyll be swinging by again shortly.  Can they maintain enough to make ADTR last?  Most likely not.  I dont think they have the range to survive the ever fickle music biz but hell, they can ride this shit like a skateboard while it lasts.

Plus this isnt a constant promotion so its mega succeess sales have no longevity.  The fans buy and that’ll do it.  Close the shop.  Early fast sales will cut off just as dramatically.

I say ‘you go ADTR’!  Get it while you can.
