From the tidings of great joy department, the original Roxy Music have reunited and recorded together for the new Bryan Ferry album Olympia.
So sure Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera but OMG Brian Eno!!!!
This line-up haven’t played together since the seminal 1973 For Your Pleasure and it will be humongous to hear what they come up with. If you never saw Roxy Music way back when, you have no idea how they blasted the cobwebs off glam. The crooning uber-romantic Bryan Ferry in a tux singing songs so romantic, “Couldn’t sleep a wink last night, how I long to hold you tight…” while Eno dressed like a glitter gay spaceman banged the keybs and the band rocked tough.
I was arguing with Alyson that Roxy Music were one of the greats -go back and listen to For Your Pleasure and Stranded if you don’t believe me. And, yeah Alyson, Saint Motel owe them a debt of gratitude -as do Interpol, LCD Soundsystem -and many, many others. It will be terrific to here them play together.
