Two great shows are playing New York in the immediate future and these are so close to a must see that one is gonna force me to go out on a Sunday (something I truly truly hate doing), and the other will find me on the Upper West Side!! But if you can get to them, you really should.

First, a week today there is the incomparable Monica Passin, aka Li’l Mo, at the well buzzed Tom Clark’s Treehouse at Avenue A and 2nd street, a coupla blocks away from my old East Village Eye stomping ground. I’ve wanted to see Li’l Mo live since back this summer when I met before I heard her (a first for me) at the Lincoln Center Americana gig. I was with her pal Jahn Xavier and I immediately liked the woman and was blown away from the first moment I heard her. This appears to be a solo set, along with sets by Liane Smith, so good opening for the dB’s last year, plus Amy Allison and Karyn Kuhl

On December 7th, Charlene McPherson and her band Spanking Charlene will be at the Ding Dong Lounge on 101st street and Columbus. A Saturday show. The last time I saw em, Spanking Charlene were the best part of the Eric Ambel curated CBGB’s Festival gig at Sullivan’s. There wasn’t a person who saw that show who isn’t still in a state of shock that anybody could be so terrific, exciting, full on, hard rocking superbitude!

These are two gigs you should really give yourself a treat and check out!
