Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Gettin' Hip

Kicking off A Parade

I have been to this NYC event numerous times and its a hit or miss.  There have been years when I stood in ice cold rain wanting to die and times it was so hot I thought I would faint.  That’s the glory of New York in Autumn- you get what you get.

In the past I have seen stars from Broadway musical and others such as Kanye West, Andy Williams, James Taylor, Hilary Duff and a boat load of others drifting by on giant floats waving and cheesing.  It’s a pretty cool event and I do recommend going at least once in your life.

This years ‘stars’ have been announced and well- it’s pretty nifty.  Joan Jett on the Mt Rushmore float?  Fall Out Boy?  Jimmy Fallon with The Roots with Sesame Street?  Where is the old guard?  Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, Austin Mahone, Goo Goo Dolls, Florida Georgia Line, The Summer Set are all lining up to clear the way for Santa’s big arrival.

I have to wonder where the old dudes are- but one thing that makes me boycott this event this year is the filthy idiots from Duck Dynasty.  Really? How vile is society that this trash is featured?

I suppose all acts must grow up even the traditionals but I would really expect a ‘Vegas-like’ performer to partake.  Christine Chenoweth will be there as always, let’s hope it’s not too windy.

“I’m pretty sure the magicians at Macy’s Parade Studio have once again made it onto Santa’s nice list,” said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. “As America’s best high school and college marching bands, hundreds of dancers, cheerleaders, clowns, and balloon handlers make their way down the streets of New York for our 87th march, they will be joined by four brand-new giant character balloons, five new intricately designed floats and one spinning dreidel. These new entries join the already stellar grouping of balloons, floats, performers and adorable kids that will once again make Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade the perfect way for everyone to begin their Thanksgiving holiday.”
