Rick Ross went from a Biggie Smalls soundalike to a big fat gangsta rapper with a major maybach crew and a headlining slot at Beacon Theater this Friday. If he lives long enough he could be as big as Big Pun.
Tuesday – John Fogerty – Beacon Theater – Sure, he is an ass, and absolutely the new reworking of the same ol’ songs is crappy, but, hey, he did write “Down On The Corner”
Tuesday – My Bloody Valentine – Hammerstein Ballroom – Man, these guys are loud
Wednesday – Paramore – Madison Square Garden – With one of the best albums of 2013 under their belt and a one long show stop of a show, this show should bring it all back home.
Wednesday – Charlie XCX – Gramercy Theater – Cool pop star, good album
Wednesday – The Belle Brigade – Mercury Lounge – A modern day Fleetwood Mac? Not again? Well, these Cali youngsters actually live up to the name to a greater than usual degree.
Thursday – Alison Moyet – Manhattan Grand Ballroom – Half of Yaz, the half that sang great, has a pretty good album out and a song as strong as it was in the 1980s.
Thursday – Gary Clark Jr – Apollo Theater – One of the greatest Jimi Hensrix disciples of all time
Friday – Flamin’ Groovies – Warsaw – The meltdown tour continues
Friday – Black Uhuru – BB Kings – If I was younger, I’d go straight from the Beacon Rick Ross show to this 1130p by one of the great reggae bands.
Friday – Johnny Marr – Webster Hall – I bet Andy Rourke shows again
