As a relatively normal 16-year-old girl, there’s nothing that runs deeper than my jealousy of Lorde. She’s my age, has a record deal, hit songs, and isn’t a total loser. Impressive is an understatement, and wow is she good at what she does.
She’s a real girl, which I absolutely love. She’s not looking to be “sexy”, and doesn’t brag about anything dumb. Her immense success has been absolutely deserved; when I first heard “Royals” on the radio, I was stunned. First off, I was surprised I didn’t hate a tune that a girl sang. Secondly, I had no idea she was as old as I am- like holy crap. Typically teen musicians are supported by Disney Channel or something stupid, but she did this all on her own. That drive is absolutely mindblowing.
Her voice is gorgeous; she has genuine talent and it’s not like she got into the industry easily. She put up an EP on SoundCloud and from there created all those social media accounts- here’s where her popularity grew. She did it authentically and they way it should be done- no one was really paying her, it was just her passion pushing her forward.
I’m consistently impressed by her album, “Pure Heroine”. She is, in more than one way, a true heroine. She’s so normal- she’s not supermodel thin, doesn’t cake on makeup and sometimes doesn’t wear any at all, and has crazy hair. She’s freespirited in a way that’s not artificial and stupid. I adore her for this, and am really looking forward to watching her grow in her career.
