So I took this lock, stock, picture and quote off rolling stone written by Austin Scaggs (another bloke i have no time for, austin scaggs, ever since i read about him buddying up with the naff beyond belief kings of leon -and he is proud of it. WTF. Isn’t there a Church and State here… isn’t it that we don’t get the girls, and we don’t get the fame, and fuck knows we don’t get the money, BUT WE GET TO KEEP OUR MOTHERFUCKING SOULS???
At least whatever rock nyc writes about is untainted by friendship. Sure I wrote about Fuzzy G and I’ve gone on record as saying I won’t write about small bands I don’t like. BUT BIG BANDS… we nail em every fucking day… we are for the consumers so they can buy good music. That’s all. This isn’t about playing DJ with Titus or hanging out at after hour clubs with Kings Of Leon. After I interviewed Stickles at Bowery Ballroom, he was around all night with his girlfriend, who i’ve met before, and you know how many times I spoke to him? NOT ONCE. I didn’t go near him. He ain’t my friend. He is there and I am here. I like him as a person, love him as a muscian and THAT IS IT.
How can I write about him if I am terrified of ruining our friendship? Of my exclusive inside baseball relationship?
I loath Austin Scaggs -I hate these scummy, ass kissing assholes. The Monitor isn’t a great album because I met Stickles, and if he never spoke to me or gave me the interview, it would still be a great album . Can Austin Scaggs say that about Kings Of Leon? -ps I didn’t forget I’m in parenthesis so knock it off).
Oh yeah, Scaggs quote from Flowers and if I hadn’t heard the single I’d be really snotty about Flowers but the single is “Crossfire” is excellent. The name to keep an eye out for here is Daniel Lanois. (I told the band) ‘This isn’t about getting attention or proving something, it’s just what I’m accustomed to doing, Also, there’s a bit of a fear of mine to not perform for a long time. For seven years I’ve been cultivating this — really working on trying to be comfortable onstageThese songs have an isolation to them that Killers records don’t have. It’s a little less keyboard, and a little more acoustic, so I started thinking about other people we could bring in. So I shot for the stars, and we got Daniel Lanois.”
ps: i have been in search of an easy post all day and haven’t found one.
