Beck’s Pilgrim Progressive by Alyson Camus

Beck has written songs for the upcoming movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’, an adaptation of the comic series by Bryan Lee O’Mailey, directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead).
In the movie, Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim), who plays the bass guitarist for the fictional band Sex Bob-omb, meets the hot pink/blue haired Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and faces the weird reality he has to battle Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends to date her.
According to Beck’s website, the songs were recorded two summers ago and the versions on the soundtrack have vocals redubbed by the film’s actors.
Beck had released a single ‘Timebomb’ in 2007, but apparently it’s not related. The Beck songs interpreted by the Sex Bob-omb band are: ‘We Are SEX BOB-OMB’, ‘Garbage Truck’, ‘Threshold’ and ‘Summertime’, some familiar Beck vocabulary there.

Beside these, Beck will perform himself a song titled ‘Ramona’, whereas two other songs for the soundtrack were written by Broken Social Scene. Producer and musician Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Beck, U2) is the film’s music supervisor.

Expect a lot of pop culture references, cartoonish scenes and fast video game action.

I bet Michael Cera will once again play the same shy, awkward, wide-eyed guy he has played in each movie he has ever been in, but I have always thought he looks like a young Beck. I don’t know about his singing ability though.
