If I ventured in the slipstream?
I have yet to see Van Morrison perform anything approaching a bad show, not in the same breathe of a bad show, and, the last time I saw him play here, 2008, was among the best shows I’ve seen in my life. That version of “Slim Slow Slider” will never leave me.
But I got a little lucky, too broke to go to shows unless I was comped till around 1990, I saw Van for the first time in 1993 and he has been great every single time but this was a decade past his playing harmonica at the wall stage.
Also, I am something of a orison geek which means when he goes obscure, he desn’t lose me at all, so his obscurities are my greatest hits.
I think he has played once locally since 2008 but it was on the same tour and I missed it.
So the news that he is playing the Theater at MSG on November 25th, 2013, couldn’t be bigger for us Vanheads. His daughter Shana is opening but let’s not hold that against her and wonder just want he will be bringing to the table. Among other things, there should be a healthy dose of Born To Sing, No Plan B but who can tell with Van?
Oh, and will Van’s people please sit down with Spotify and discuss getting his damn catalog in one place? Where are all those 90s albums? Why doesn’t he least consider posterirty and get them where every one can hear them. He isn’t making a much on digital or CD sales, why not give it a shot?
